"His Holiness is with us to celebrate the 50 years of Metropolis of Zimbabwe!!!
The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe yesterday afternoon accompanied by his Eminence the Most Reverend George Vladimirou of Guinea.
His Beatitude was met at the airport by the head of protocol of the Foreign Ministry of Zimbabwe, representing the President of Zimbabwe, the Greek Ambassador of Greece Mr. George Marcantonatos, the Ambassador of Egypt Mr. Mohamed Fahmy, Bishop Seraphim of Zimbabwe and Angola, the Honorary Consul of Cyprus Mr. Nestoras Nestoros, the President of the Federation of Hellenic Communities of Zimbabwe Ellou Koumidou, Arhontissa of the Church Ari Psillos, Father George and other local dignitaries.
On his arrival the Patriarch was given a ‘leader of a Country’ welcome and it is noted that for the first time the Patriarch is an officially invited guest of the President of Zimbabwe,
The entourage continued to the Mitropolis in Gun Hill where the Patriarch was greeted by the Greek Orthodox Missions priests, many parishioners and members of the Hellenic Community.
Emotionally moved, the Patriarch expressed his love and anxiety for the protection of the people of Zimbabwe and especially for the children who usually are the innocent victims in the events of crisis.
He emphasized the three reasons for his visit. The 50th Anniversary of the Mitropolis of Zimbabwe, his 14th Anniversary of his election from Bishop of Zimbabwe to Patriarch, and the celebrations of the feast day of Osia Mother Efterpi.
His Beatitude will be meeting President Emmerson Emmerson Mnangagwa
and will be visiting the Missions where baptisms will take place together with the distribution of
food and clothing."
