Parish teams are a great way to introduce an entire community to the missionary vocation of the Church! By traveling to the mission field as a group, a congregation can gain a much deeper perspective of why and how we, as Orthodox Christians, do missionary work. On a parish team, individuals see firsthand how much the world around us needs Christ, and they are given an opportunity to share the Gospel and serve His people. This empowers the community to go and do the same thing back home.
Studies show that once people serve on mission teams, they are more likely to get involved in outreach ministries within their own communities. They also become more aware of their own parish’s responsibility to reach out beyond her borders and actively become a welcoming place for new believers. The team experience also gives parishioners a chance to see how they may be called to serve the Church in a greater capacity, whether locally or overseas.
If you’re interested in coordinating a team for your parish, please reach out to us! The process begins with a parish registration form. OCMC will work with the parish to find the best team option for the community.
Parish-sponsored mission teams are great opportunities for a parish! If your parish is ready to send a team, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for more information. You can e-mail us at teams@ocmc.org or call 1-877-463-6784.
