On Tuesday, 11 December 2013, His Eminence Archbishop Sergios and Reverend Father Nicholas Giamouridis, parish priest of the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George the Great Martyr, joined thousands of other Cape Town residents in paying tribute to the late President Nelson Mandela at the memorial event held at the Cape Town stadium in Green Point. The event was addressed by leaders from across the political spectrum as well as a wide variety of performers who came to bid farewell to a much loved leader.
