The Monk who grew Prayer
The theme for the junior group this term is Living our Orthodox Faith and on Sunday 9 March Carol Vikos, who facilitates the junior class, used the story (in a very practical way) to encourage children to pray at any time of the day. These little children are often accompanied by their parents who together with their children, are also learning about their Orthodox Faith
The story line is about a monk, who deep in the forest he prays. The monk looks as though he is doing simple, ordinary tasks, such as chopping wood and tending to his garden, but as he works he is growing in prayer.
The monk prays continually throughout the day and night, and as the seasons pass, he becomes a holy man. This delightful, beautifully- illustrated book teaches children that no matter what they are doing, or what hour of the day it is, they too, can pray.
