Uganda Orthodox Church - Holy Metropolis of Kampala
Today on the Apodosis of Pascha Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Nicholas Cathedral led by the Cathedral Dean Fr. Nicholas Bayego after which a special service led by Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi was conducted in remembrance of the 1966 Mengo Crisis which was driven by conflict between Prime Minister Milton Obote and the Kabaka of Buganda, Mutesa II, culminating in a military assault upon the latter's residence that drove him into exile. The speaker of Buganda Kingdom Lukiko (Parliament) Owek. Mugumbule Patrick Luwagga who represented the Katikiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayega presented his message to those who attended the service urging them to resist such actions like those of 1966 which caused a grate setback in the growth and development of not only the Buganda Kingdom but also Uganda at large.
