Archbishopric of Good Hope: Trisagion for the late Nelson Mandela – May his memory be eternal

Former president Nelson Mandela died at his home on Thursday night

His Eminence Archbishop Sergios, clergy and laity of all our parishes express their condolences to the family of the late Nelson Mandela.
On Sunday 8 December all the Orthodox  Churches in our Diocese will offer a “Trisagion Service” after the service of the Holy Eucharist asking the Lord to give rest to the soul of the late Nelson Mandela.
May his memory be eternal!

Trisagion Service the brief Trisagion or “Thrice-Holy” Service is served for the deceased. This service derives its name because it begins with the familiar prayer, “Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us,” repeated three times.  After the initial prayers, four hymns are chanted asking the Lord to give rest to the deceased among those who have already been perfected in the faith.
