Uganda Orthodox Church - Holy Metropolis of Kampala
Yesterday, 27 March, by the blessings of the Judge of the World, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Metropolitan Jeronymos enthroned Bishop Chrysostomos at Twelve Apostles Cathedral as Bishop of the re-established Diocese of Bukoba, Tanzania.
His Eminence was accompanied by bishops, Sylvester and Nectarios of Jinja and Gulu, respectively; priests, monastics and a number of faithfuls from the Holy Metropolis of Kampala.
Archbishop Jeronymos Muzeeyi served the bishopric of Bukoba from 1999 until 2007 when it was elevated to the level of Archdiocese and seat moved to a more populous city of Mwanza. Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga (memory eternal) served the diocese from 1992 to 1997 when he became metropolitan of Kampala after the repose of Metropolitan Theodoros Nankyama (memory eternal).
The diocese of Bukoba was re-established in October 2019 by the Alexandrian Synod and has been under the guidance of Bishop Agathonicos of Arusha and Central Tanzania and served by Archmandrite Chrysostomos Maidonis as a Patriarchal Vicar until he was consecrated bishop earlier this year.
