Hellenes Living in South Africa - Έλληνες τής Νοτίου Αφρικής
"The members of the Durban KZN Greek community organized a pilgrimage to the Greek Orthodox Church, St Kiriaki, in Glencoe.
Both local and Durban Greeks had the opportunity to attend Orthodox matins, Divine Liturgy and the service of the Artoklasia, sequence on Sunday at the Glencoe Greek Orthodox Church.
This little church was built in 1902 and was previously a Catholic Church which had fallen into disuse.
Following the death of Kiki Adalis in a car accident on 25 June 1990, Mr Charlie Adalis, Mr Andrea Melis with the support of Greek families in the northern KZN region, purchased this church.
In 1992, with the blessing and supervision of Archbishop of the Archbishopric of Good Hope, Cape Town at the time, this church in Glencoe was converted to a Greek Orthodox Church.
The generous support of the Greeks in this region has ensured the renovation, decoration and continued maintainence of this church in Glencoe.
Currently, this church continues under the supervision and blessings of His Eminence, the Archbishop, Mr Sergios Kykkotis, in memory of Kiki Adalis and in the furtherance of the Greek Orthodox faith and community in the northern KZN region.
This pilgrimage was a success, being well supported and attended, giving joy to all who endeavor in this work and memorial surrounding this little church.
