On 18th July 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod the Very Reverend Archimandrite Daniel Biazis and with the presence of His Excellency the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, paid a visit to the Governor’s Office in Alexandria to meet with Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Governor of the Great City.
The meeting took place on the one hand so that the Alexandrian Primate could thank the Governor of Alexandria for his presence during the welcome of the Representatives of the Orthodox Churches who participated in then Inter-Orthodox Conference for the Holy Martyr Kyrillos Loukaris, and on the other to brief him in detail regarding the programmed establishment by the Alexandrian Throne, of the “ALEXANDER THE GREAT” Programme of Post Graduate Studies, based in Alexandria, with the supervision and cooperation of international universities (Cambridge, Oxford, Paphos), which will contribute to the training of African clergy and staff of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
The Governor Mr Sultan assured His Beatitude the Patriarch of his fervent support for the establishment of the PPGS in Alexandria, emphasizing that this Department will contribute greatly to the promotion of the glorious history of Alexandria to the ends of the world and will gather academic interest for the study of Hellenic Culture.
Immediately thereafter His Excellency the Governor of Alexandria asked His Beatitude the Patriarch that the usual commemorative photograph be taken in front of the bust of the Macedonian Alexander the Great, founder of the City, which was donated by His Beatitude and is in his office.
