The Archdiocese of Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa, was established back in 1927. His Eminence Archbishop Damaskinos has a rich missionary experience, having previously served in Ghana and in various parts of the African continent before being appointed to South Africa in 2010.

Fr. Frumentius Taubata was born in Ladysalborne, South Africa, in 1958. He learned about the Orthodox Church when he met two Orthodox priests. In his words, he "fell in love with their humanity" and desired to know more about the Orthodox Church. He was baptized in 2004 and ordained to the holy priesthood in 2008. Fr. Frumentius currently serves the Orthodox community in Attredgeville.
