"With the blessing of His Grace Innocentios Byakatonda, the Bishop of the Orthodox Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda, Divine Liturgy was celebrated on this Sunday of 24th June 2018 for the orthodox community living in the town of Rubavu / Gisenyi - Rwanda.
Father Petros Bicamumpaka conducted the service helped by the missionaries from Congo: Triphon Banza and Andre Kayombo, Reader Timotheos Titus Twungubumwe and Catechist Maximos Tubanambazi Donatwho is the representative of the Orthodox Community of Rubavu / Gisenyi. About 50 faithful and catechumen attended the service whereby was commemorated the birth of Saint John Baptist: Prophet and Forerunner of our Lord Jesus Christ, and his mother Elizabeth.
The Sunday epistle is Romans 13: 11-14 & 14:1-4 and the Gospel reading is Luke: 1:1-25, 57-68, 76-80. After the service, Fr. Petros Bicamumpaka took a few minutes of talking to the catechumen about Orthodox beliefs and practices.
As the other Parishes and Communities of the Orthodox Church in Rwanda, the major challenge of the Orthodox Community of Gisenyi is not having it's own adequate place for worship and where to carry out other missionary activities.
Please keep this community in your daily prayers."
