Orthodox Cathedral of The Resurrection of The Lord, Lagos
"Everyday there are many reasons to be grateful to God.
Today from the Cathedral of The Resurrection of The Lord Lagos Nigeria, we are thanking God specially for the grace of priesthood on our Archbishop, Metropolitan Alexander of Nigeria.
His Eminence Alexander after his theological studies was ordained Deacon on 1st October 1988 and Priest on 2nd October 1988 for the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
After his ordination he served as a priest in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg and Pretoria as Superior of the Patriarchal Church of the Holy Unmercenaries and as secretary of the Archdiocese.
On 23rd September 1997 he was elected Bishop of Nigeria and on 24th November 1997 he was consecrated by His Beatitude.
On October 27, 2004 he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan and the Holy Diocese of Nigeria was elevated to an Archdiocese.
His Eminence throughout his pastoral mission here in Nigeria has dedicated time to developing existing local Churches which he met on ground and growing many new Churches. This is evident in the number of new Churches and faithfuls we now have both here in Nigeria and in his other jurisdiction namely Benin and Togo.
Metropolitan Alexander also strongly believes in human and capacity development has over the years ordained priests to serve the needs of the local Church. It is no gain saying that Nigerian clergies are well rounded and grounded academically, theologically and in Church rubrics.
We are glad for the many good things God has wrought through His Eminence in the life of the Archdiocese of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo.
Dear friends and brethren, join us in celebrating our Archbishop, His Eminence @Alexander Gianniris as he marks 32 years in the service of Christ.
To His Eminence Archbishop Alexander, Metropolitan of The Holy Archdiocese of Nigeria, Niger, Benin and Togo, Vicar and Exarch of the lands of Guinea Gulf, who is our father and shepherd we pray that God will preserve the grace of priesthood in you, grant you many years in good health, and give you new insight as you continue to shepherd the flock which has been placed under your care.
May God Grant You Many years."
