On Monday evening 6 October 2014, a Great Vespers Service was held at The Holy Metropolitan
Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Rondebosch, to celebrate the forthcoming Feast Day of Saint Sergios and Saint Bacchus, on Tuesday October 7, in the presence of Mr Martalas, president of the Hellenic Community of Cape Town and committee members.
The very Reverend Archimandrite Evlogios Antonellos (from George) officiated at the service together with the Right Reverend Father Nikolaos Giamouridis.
Fr Evlogios closed the Service by wishing everyone well and complimented the chanters on their performance. He also extended to His Eminence the good wishes of the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Good Hope. Fr. Nikolaos thanked everyone present for sharing this special occasion and honouring the Name Day of our Metropolitan Archbishop Sergios, our spiritual leader, even though His Eminence was not able to be present as he is representing the Patriarchate of Alexandria in discussions to draft the agenda for the “Pan Orthodox Synod” scheduled for 2016. He also thanked Archimandrite Evlogios for joining us from George and leading the Service.
The evening ended with a celebratory informal cocktail party and everyone enjoyed the delicious snacks prepared by the ladies of the Welfare Committee.
On Tuesday 7 October there was a Service of the Holy Eucharist in the presence of Consul Mr Thomas Matsoukas, Consular staff from the Consulate of Greece in Cape Town and Mr Bardopoulos, who was representing the Hellenic Community’s main Committee.
