HIERARCHICAL CELEBRATION OF SAINT NICHOLAS DAY IN KAMPALA
Today, 6 December, Saint Nicholas Cathedral - Kampala celebrated their patronal feast day with a quartet of hierarchs.
The joyful celebrations started with Orthros and Divine Liturgy presided over by Bishop Nectarios of Gulu on the rainy Friday morning.
With the canonical blessings of Metropolitan Jeronymos of Kampala, His Grace Nectarios was joined in concelebration by Bishops Silvestros of Jinja, Innocentios of Sozusa (titular) as well as the host bishop.
In his remarks, the Bishop of Gulu called on all the Orthodox Christians to "give this day more value by remembering all those who have generously served the Church in Uganda over the years."
Metropolitan Innocentios who delivered the festal sermon, wished many years of blessings to all the feasters.
"Those who carry the name Nicholas and Nicoleta, especially Fr. Nicholas Bayego - the dean of St Nicholas Cathedral, many years ", he said.
He further exhorted everyone to emulate saint Nicholas through generosity, the utmost zeal of refuting evil and above all, humility.
Bishop Silvestros remarkably urged the Orthodox Christians to read the Holy Scriptures in order to keep themselves acquainted with the Orthodox doctrines which the revered saint Nicholas stood for.
"It's unfortunate that Orthodox Christians do not often read the Bible as they should, yet it holds a principal position in Orthodox worship," he stressed.
The archpastor of Jinja and Eastern Uganda gifted an epigonation embroidered with the icon of saint Nicholas to Fr. Nicholas Bayego.
Metropolitan Jeronymos of Kampala expressed gratitude towards his spiritual counterparts for gracing the feast.
He stressed that "the wonder-working saint Nicholas, the patron of Namungoona mission center is the one blessed them to become bishops." "To those who named Nicholas/Nicoleta, lift up your hands to the Lord so that you may be filled with His grace."
The blessing of bread (artoklasia) and other gifts for thanksgiving was also offered after the Divine Liturgy. The festal meal was then served in the cathedral compound.
