COMMEMORATION OF METROPOLITAN JONAH LWANGA AT ST NICHOLAS CATHEDRAL
With the blessings of Metropolitan Jeronymos of Kampala, Bishop Silvester of Jinja presided over the hierarchical Divine Liturgy and the special memorial service yesterday at St Nicholas Cathedral in remembering three years since the repose of Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga. In concelebration with Bishop Silvester were Metropolitan Jeronymos and Bishop Nectarios of Gulu whereas Metropolitan Innocentios Byakatonda co-performed the memorial service.
In his remarks, Bishop Silvester praised Metropolitan Jonah of blessed memory for the indelible mark he left on Orthodox mission in Uganda and beyond. He added that it was astounding for the hierarch to fall asleep on the day of the commemoration of Prophet Zacharias (father of the Forerunner) they both possessed bold characters in doing the work of God.
The Forefathers Education Fund was launched to carry on the philanthropic work of educating children.
