Archbishopric of Good Hope: Petros Khaya returns from Alexandria

by Archbishopric of Good Hope

His Beatitude, Theodoros II, awards degrees to the graduates of the Patriarchal Academy of Saint Athanasios in Alexandria. Congratulations to Petros Khaya!

Here in Cape Town we are very happy to welcome back our very own Saint Savvas Patriarchal School graduate, Petros Khaya, who was sent to the theological school in Alexandria by His Eminence, Archbishop Sergios. We look forward to having him join our community and church choir again.
On 23rd May 2013, His Beatitude, Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, officiated at the graduation ceremony of the African graduates at the Patriarchal Academy of “Agios  Athanasios”  (situated on the premises of the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas) for the 2011-2013 academic cycle.
In his address His Beatitude expressed the valuable  training,  giving indigenous cultures the necessary skills which will help to ease the increased pastoral and humanitarian needs of the African continent. He  praised the graduates for both the pride and the conscientiousness they showed in fulfilling their academic tasks and their consistent participation in divine worship and prayer, adhering to the ethics and ethos of the Orthodox way, and  urged them to continue to spread Christ’s ministry and testimony throughout Africa, following the example of the missionary path of the Apostles.
His Beatitude, reserved a   special honourable mention for  the  Dean Father of the Patriarchal Academy, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Narkissos Gamo, who had  the students under  his tutelage  for two years so they could experience the inseparable unity of the Church and education, and also expressed grateful thanks to the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr Christos Kapodistrias and to the Greek State and particularly to the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport for their valuable contribution to the proper functioning of the Academy.
He thanked the First Vice President of the Greek Community in Alexandria, Mr Nicholas Kopelou and the devout flock of the community  for the love with which they surrounded the boarders of the Patriarchal Academy during their two-year stay in the city of Alexandria.
