THE MISSIONARY STEPS OF THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA IN THE AFRICAN SAVANAH OF NORTHERN UGANDA

On 3rd November 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Eminence Jonas Metropolitan of Kampala, His Eminence Ieronymos Metropolitan of Mwanza, His Eminence Narkissos Metropolitan of Noubea and His Grace Innocent Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda, traveled by road following a long journey to the district of Gulu in Northern Uganda, next to the border with South Sudan.
First, His Beatitude visited the Holy Church of St. Nektarios where the local clergy and the faithful of the area welcomed him in torrential tropical rain and following the customary doxology everyone in the courtyard of the Church listened to the words spoken by the Alexandrian Primate who expressed his tireless interest in and particular concern for the problems and life difficulties of the people of this impoverished area, which is plagued by famine and drought.
The Patriarch and his entourage then attended a festal Agape meal according to the first Christian standards which was hosted by the faithful as an expression of gratitude for the arduous journey undertaken by the Patriarch.
Within the framework of this visit, the Alexandrian Primate was briefed on the philanthropic activities of the parish in the Gulu district and inspected the adjacent clinic where he was impressed by the cleanliness and integrity of the sites, as well as the Church of St Basil and the School of St Anthony where the pupils sand for His Beatitude.
