His Grace Bishop Neophytos of Nyeri and Mount Kenya has been traveling throughout his diocese to teach and reach his people. Recently on his FACEBOOK page, he posted an insightful and hope-filled reflection on his visit to a budding community.
The community yearns for a church and His Grace wants to teach his flock the proper traditions from the beginning, so he asks them to build a structure. The faithful Maasai community began to build one in honor of St. Dionysios Aeropagite.
Unfortunately, due to their lack of resources and their remote location, when he arrived he found, “…icons hanging on posts and no roof. The church is barely in a desert.”
It may seem hopeless, but His Grace knows, there is always hope. “Seeing is believing and some action is needed! I will post videos soon of the same. I love this mission!”

A day like no other!Although he found many women and children, there weren’t many men, “…men here rarely go to church or the don’t go at all. So it’s mostly a women and children business but I hope and pray that gradually it will be their business too.”
How can they believe when they have not seen? How can you claim when you have not proclaimed?
These two questions compelled me to move deeper today into the dry lands of the Maasai community in some region of my Diocese and I found them waiting for me.
