The National Association of Hellenic Youth and Student Organisation of South Africa, NAHYSOSA, held their annual mini congress in Bloemfontein this year and they invited His Eminence Archbishop Sergios to address the students on Saturday 29 March. His Eminence attended the meeting together with the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Bloemfontein, Mr. Kyriakos Cambanis.
Mr. Michali Skoliades, the chairman of NAHYSOSA, opened the session with a presentation on the progress of the Bursary Fund run by the organisation to assist fellow Hellenic students in need of financial sponsorship and afterwards a general discussion was held.
His Eminence congratulated the students for their commitment to helping their fellow students through the Bursary Fund and encouraged them to continue the good work. He said we need to take care of our own people and stressed that parallel to this, we as Orthodox Christians, also need to be good witnesses of our Faith in society.
He added that through the way we conduct ourselves as a group of people with a particular style of life, through our activities and by living authentically within the precepts of the Church, we not only set a good example to others but display a pattern of behaviour that mirrors Christ, which is what we are all called to do.
