The Birth of the God Man was celebrated with solemnity and spiritual gladness in the temporary Holy Cathedral of Saint Dimitrios in Pointe-Noire. His Grace Panteleimon, Bishop of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon, conducted the Divine Liturgy at midnight and read the Christmas Message of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
Before the end of the Eucharistic gathering, His Grace donated an honourary plaque to the Church Council of the Cathedral in recognition of the contribution made by the parish Community of St Dimitrios, which built 5 shops for rental, which income the general missionary efforts of the local Church of the Congo is substantially supported and the building of the permanent Cathedral is proceeding smoothly.
He also announced the renewal of the incumbency of the Parish Priest of the Church, the Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Maximos Oumba as Hierarchal Vicar General of the Holy Dioceses of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon.
At the end, the surprise visit of «Papa Noel» spread joy to the children, giving them gifts which the Bishop obtained through the generous assistance of the Christian youth of the Lebanese community of the city.
A festive gathering followed for the faithful in the church yard with the sound of traditional musical instruments. The Divine Liturgy and the festive events were covered by Congo television (TeleCongo TV).
