RECOGNITION OF THE WORK OF THE LOCAL CHURCH OF CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE

On 19th December 2018, His Eminence Panteleimon, Metropolitan of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon, accompanied by the Honourable Mr. Nicholas Perris, Consul General of Greece, visited the Embassy of Egypt in the Congo where he met the Diplomatic Attaché Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, who is replacing the Ambassador who is absent abroad.
He then went to the Presidency of the Republic of Congo – Brazzaville, following an invitation, where met with the Grand Chancelier Mr. Norbert Okiokoutina who announced the decision of His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Congo that His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon high honours for his contribution to the country. The Presidential Decree is being printed in the Government Gazette and the award will be made shortly at a special ceremony.
His Eminence thanked the Grand Chancelier for this unexpected move of recognition of the arduous missionary and humanistic efforts and stressed that the award belongs to the Mother-Church, the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and the plenitude of the local Church of Congo-Brazzaville, it is another reason of praise to God, that makes the Apostolic work possible and he assured them of  the continuation of ministry to his fellow citizens.  Finally, he pointed out the valuable sacrificial and unselfish offer of Greek and Cypriot Christians to the Congolese brothers and sisters in the midst of a severe financial crisis.
Following the meetings, the Metropolitan returned by air to the See of the Hoy Metropolis in Pointe-Noire.
