Russian Liturgy and Service of the Holy Unction – Metropolitan Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, Cape Town

Archbishopric of Good Hope

russian service St Raphael CT 22 March 2014 3 (1)

On Saturday 22 March Reverend Fr. Daniel Lugovoy, (from Johannesburg) officiated at the Service of the Holy Eucharist at the Metropolitan Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene.  After the service Fr. Daniel thanked His Eminence for his support of all Orthodox Christians and invited him to address the congregation.
His Eminence said that it is good to attend church services during Lent because we receive the Grace of Jesus Christ through His resurrection. This gives us strength to persevere in our faith and to face the difficulties we are faced with. Especially during the more recent times.
He said that unfortunately politicians make decisions that create problems and conflict among countries, nations, groups of people or individuals which cause agony and stress. We would like to see the politicians handle things in a humble way because there is another way, through Jesus Christ.  He is “The Way” and the best example for every person. Orthodox Christians should not be involved in politics and we need to keep trying to improve ourselves in our personal lives, and in our relation to our families, communities and parishes here in South Africa –  to witness our faith to our fellow man, so as to prove the way of Christ. His Eminence said we should be in the church and persevere with our prayers and our fasting during Lent. That way God will grant us peace and what is necessary for our lives.
