The children learn about the Holy Light in Jerusalem... Saint George’s Sunday School – Cape Town

Archbishopric of Good Hope

On Sunday 15 March Nicky Holtzhausen shared her experience during Holy Week in Jerusalem with the middle and teenage group at Saint George’s Sunday School after the Service of the Veneration of the Cross.
The presentation was supported by a slide presentation  from her trip. The highlight of which was her personal video taken in the Church of The Holy Sepulchre during the time when the Greek Orthodox Patriarch receives the Holy Light (flame) with 33 candles and in turn passes it on to those present via an age old tradition.

Nicky presentation - Sunday 22 March 1

On Sunday 22 March the presentation continued and they were shown  a video of the actual event. They  were also given worksheets with photographs and information to take with them.
Both presentations were well received by the children which was evident by the pertinent questions they posed and will help them to prepare  for the Service of the Resurrection of Christ when all Orthodox Christian Parishes receive the “Light of Christ” around the world.
Many thanks from the teachers to Nicky for taking the time to present to the Children.
